Truman Spoon, a gentleman full of surprises.
Spoon has three degrees from Sul Ross State University. He has a bachelor and two masters degrees. Did you know his undergraduate degree is in Botany?!!!!! Who knew?! He has a masters in Education and Physical Education.
Spoon has worked as an athletic trainer in the state of Texas for more than 40 years. He has worked at many high schools across the west Texas area: Andress, Monahans, Alpine, Montwood, and Fort Stockton. Truman also worked for Alert Services for 13 years. He really has done it all.
Spoon was the very first Athletic Trainer of the Year as selected by the Texas High School Coaches Association. He attended the first meeting of SWATA in Waco in the summer of 1963. Spoon was selected to the SWATA Hall of Fame in 1997.
Currently Truman has his hands full with many ventures. Truman is the founder and director of Rodeo Sports Medicine and the Director of Sports Medicine for Championship Bull Riding as well as the Outreach Coordinator for PhyTex Sports Medicine in Alpine.
The profession is truly blessed, especially those athletic trainers in West Texas, for the efforts of Truman Spoon. He founded the Davis Mountains Sports Medicine clinic in 1986, 31 years ago, to educate athletic trainers of all backgrounds and experience. He continues to share his wisdom through his clinic, work, and professionalism.
Truman and his late wife Joanne were married for more than 30 years. Truman makes his home in Fort Davis, Texas.
